This is really getting on my nerves. current state of affairs:
to answer kayless - I allowed windows to create the partition... every time I did a clean install (is that 5 or 6 times now? :)
I put vista64 back on and I've been beating the crap out of it, trying to get it to BSOD. I ran Prime95 for a few hours on all 4 cores, nothing. installing a bunch of programs and moving files around... nothing. no BSODs. I guess that should make me happy, but it does not. I also haven't had the "application has stopped working" error again.
I ordered 4gb more RAM (2 DIMMs) from newegg to swap out with the existing 2 DIMMs. If that makes the problems go away, I have my answer and I'll call dell to get replacement RAM. either way, I'll have 8GB of RAM when I'm done.
I'm so annoyed that the problems won't happen in vista64. So aggravating to have to use vista after I'm so used to win7.
Thanks for all the tips and ideas, everybody. I'll have that replacement RAM to test tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm using my M6300.

The errors you've got are exactly the same kind of errors i had with my broken HYNIX ram stick; I ran too PRIME95 and had no issues even with faulty ram; i was too afflicted by random program crashes.

I don't want to be a pain, but all you said still make me strongly suspect your RAM.

Which version memtest86+ did you run ? Run latest.
Also be sure to run memtest86+, not memtest86 eventually.

Would you mind to try running -again- a overnight memtest86+ session ? Try running just test 5 and test 8.

Wish you luck, i hope you'll get this sorted soon.

    Hi,

I baught that Rolls Royce begin of this year.
I felt in the same trouble (BSODssss).
After looong calls with DELL and multiple tests, ...
They finally decided to swap my laptop with a new one !

    It works nearly perfectly now.

    No more BSODs =D

But, from time to time, after a standby, it looses it's NetExtreme card ==> REBOOT is the only way to get it back.
In the same time, I loose my Aero functionalities !

I'm also unable to active and use my FingerPrint with W7 (Vista 64 was working perfectly)

    I don't find this quadcore so fast ... :-(

    Regards,
    Dominique

I ended up fixing mine very un-scientifically ... so I'm not sure what the problem was... I just kept reinstalling win7 and installing or NOT installing certain drivers. now it is stable as can be, but I have no idea why. If I had done it one driver at a time and then given it a day or two to run to test stability, then do a different driver, I'm sure I could have narrowed it down.... but I just sorta tried random crap until it worked.

The problem is that Windows Seven is not yet supported !

I had this kingd of problems with VISTA 64 !

Btw, what do you think about the performances of that system ?
    QuadCore 2.53GHz / 8GB / FX3700M (1GB) / 2 x 320GB disks

For my part, I'm VERY disappointed !

I'm happy with mine... much faster than my M6300 w/ a dual core proc (especially when doing something heavily multi-threaded, like rendering video). large file handling in 64-bit photoshop cs4 is pretty impressive.
I also have the 64GB samsung SSD as primary, with a 500gb secondary... so it isn't a DIRECT comparison to yours.
What are you comparing it to? mine def isn't as fast as my i7 desktop machine, but it is fast as hell for a laptop.
