I have not used this other than while on a chat program and it just automatically worked for the video chat function.

But if I want to just "turn it on" and view what its seeing or maybe take a still shot with it, how do I just turn it on and view it. And how do I know its not always on?

I have found a little control panel but I dont see anything about just "using it" outside a chat program.

    Any ideas??

    Are you using windows xp?
If so go to my computer and it should show up there along with your storage drives.
If you're using vista, you may need some 3rd party software(google "3rd party webcam software);)
