the RGB screen offered only on their covet line atm, is about $700 usd more expensive over the 2CCFL screen (matte) on their regular M6400 line... so, is it worth the difference?

Well....doing "photostuff" would make it worth it if you need true color representation. RGB LED is more accurate than the 2CCFL...though both are probably good. If you're looking for the best color representation, for professional use you could consider it. If not necessary save your money for that higher GPU ;)

I'm eagerly awaiting reviews to see what the response time of the RGB LED screens are. I've read conflicting posts about some LED screens having slow response times (25ms) and that ghosting can be seen during films/games, (although these are screens on different machines, not the M6400). Then again, other people who have LED screens say there is no ghosting at all.

I'll be cancelling the Covet if it proves too slow. Cmon CNET etc, pull yourt fingers out and review this beast! :)

I wouldn't think the LED has anything to do with response time as it is just the backlight. Response times are misleading in that there is no standard that is set to record these numbers. The proper time should be black to white to black and not grey to white to grey. Right now I guess we'll just have to reply on other people's observations.

    Typically for desktops:

    TN Film - 4ms / 3ms, and now 2ms
    P-MVA - 8ms generation
PVA / S-PVA - 8ms generation initially, but quickly changed to 6ms generation
    S-IPS - 8ms and 6ms becoming more common.

Note sure how it differs in notebooks, except that I know notebooks have lower quality in that they have less color depth (bits) and gamut, etc.

There is a big difference between a WLED display and RGBLED display. You really need to see a RGBLED display to understand how AWESOME it really is.

dude... seriously... Dell should show me some more love here bro...
the things i'm doing to get my hands on a covet... heck, anything shy of whoring myself...

c'mon... show a lil love and send me a 30% coupon or something...

i hear that it's easier to ask for forgiveness to the missus rather than it is to get permission... gotta remember that one...

    but getting back to point...

would you say that a RGBLED matte > 2CCFL Gloss?

the first time i saw a ccfl gloss, i was quite blown away...
