I've been using eSATA drives on my M6400 (via docking station) since it arrived. No problems at all. Ok - it caused it all to "pause" briefly if I hot plugged in - but aside from that - no worries.

No, I've just got myself an eSATA RAID 1 enclosure - it holds 2x disks and mirrors them for you.

Plugging that into the eSATA - if hot plugging it all grinds to a halt, and the screen goes black..until I unplug it

If I boot with it in, then the bios recognises the drive and lists it - but then booting takes, well, I left it for 10mins and it was still booting so I switched off, unplugged and booted without it.

This may be to the fact that the enclosure hasn't finished replicating the drives at the moment so is causing heaps of SATA bus traffic?

It works fine (if *slowly*) via USB.

Anyways - anyone else had similar issues?

I'll try again once the enclosure has completed the mirroring (it will take a while - 1TB of mirroring...) and let you guys know.

    M
