Can you boot say Windows98SE from an eSATA drive?
If you can, are there any suitable drivers that will work with the FX2700m and Windows 98?

I run Vistax64 normally, but have a bunch of old games that I want to play :)

They work under XP, but I can't be assed installing XP - it would take too long and I'm not sure how many licences that I have left either (I am a Microsoft MSDN subscriber) - and I shouldn't really be wasting development licences for playing games.

Win98 should install in a flash!

Yes and no. Installing an OS on an eSATA drive should be almost the same as installing an OS on an internal SATA drive. You're almost guaranteed not to find proper drivers for any of the M6400 components under 98, though. Your games might still run without the proper drivers, though...

Your best bet is probably to buy another XP license.
