Just got my m4600 (see specs below) and had some questions (as the m4600 thread is dead)...

Is the m4600 IPS screen more stable than the m4700?

I have the green and pink tint. Is it worth having Dell fix it? Does it get worse over time?

How does Windows identify the IPS screen vs the full HD non-IPS screen? Is there a model number in the Device Manager?

When toggling btwn the web, Media Player, and desktop, do these color profiles shifts sound about right:
    Internet Explorer: sRGB
    Desktop: Full
    Windows Media Player rec.709

What's the best way to calibrate the IPS screen? The PremiereColor software or the Spyder 4 Pro/Elite?

Is it worth upgrading to the Advanced -N + WiMAX 6250 from the Wireless 1501 (802.11 b/g/n 1x1)?

Is it worth getting the 128GB Solid State Mini-Card secondary storage device?

I didn't receive an OS disc. Is it possible to get Windows 7 Pro w/ XP mode from Dell? Is XP mode worth it?

Is the K2000 (m4700) that much more powerful than the 2000m (m4600)? I see the memory bandwidth is the same for both cards: http://www.nvidia.com/content/PDF/product-comparison/Product-Comparison-Quadro-mobile-series.pdf

What's a good bag to protect my sweet and tender beast? :)

    Thanks,
    Zach

(Also, how do you set up a signature to repeat my specs, so I don't have to copy and paste them every time, like below. :)

All M4600/M4700 have tint issues with the IPS screen. Dell doesn't sell IPS screens in the M4700 anymore, presumably because of this.

XP mode doesn't come on the disc, you download and install it separately.
Windows XP Mode - Microsoft Windows
As for if it is "worth it", that just depends on if you need XP to run any specific apps that don't work in Windows 7. It works OK for that.

So what Blu Ray codec is everybody using. Brought it on a little trip with the family expecting Windows Media Player/Center to play BD natively. Silly me.

Looks like PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theatre, huh?

    had my M4700 a few weeks - pretty pleased with it. (i7 3740 + 16GB RAM + K1000M)

+ happy with the screen - glad I fought for the 1080p screen. I ended up with the LG panel (LGD032C) which looks great. So glad I didn't get the 1366x768 screen.
+ video conversion for a recent file took 3 mins vs 17 mins on my old laptop :)
+ I get to choose video conversion using Intel quick sync or CUDA
+ nice and cool and quiet, although not hooked up to a monitor yet.

    - big and heavy
    - off set keyboard taking me a while to get used to
    - I can't believe the standard Dell Wireless 1501 card is so CRAP! Spent 4 hrs troubleshooting why max speed was 72Mbps - turns out that is all the card does. Very disappointing - wish I'd checked this.

I got the hybrid hard drive - seems OK, although obviously not as quick as pure SSD.

You have someone in the marketplace selling Intel 6300 Wifi cards for 22$ if you wish to upgrade. My mate to whom it was shipped (in USA) received it 4 days after my payment. I will be able to provide more info about how it works on Friday (May 3rd) when my m6600 and wifi finally come to me.

Thanks for the link. I'll look into that. I use older 3D software, like Maya 2009, from time to time and like having native XP to work with.

Quick question: I updated the computer today and noticed a new driver for my Quadro 2000M card. I now have an option to enable Nvidia 3D Vision. If I get a pair of glasses, as seen with the M6600/M6700, will I be able to watch 3D film?

This would be great, as I would love to learn stereoscopy in Maya/Houdini.

you also need a 3D display on top of the glasses.

Yep. Will opt for an IPS 3D external: bigger, better contrast, lower response times.

    Guys,

I want to verify specs and make my new m4600 is working fine.

    Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
    i7-2860QM (2.5GHz, 3.6GHz Turbo, 8MB Cache) (basically an i7-2960XM)
    15.6" 1080p, IPS PremierColor screen
    16GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz
512GB Solid State Drive (LiteOn LCT-512M3S)
    NVIDIA Quadro 2000M (2GB GDDR3)
    HD web cam + mic
    Backlit Keyboard
    Slot Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
    1501 Wireless-N 802.11a/g/n Card
    Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module
    9-cell (97Wh) Battery
Intel vPro Technology Advanced Management Features

Before I start installing software, which tools should I download to test things out?

So far, I've created this list:

    CPU-Z
    HD Tune
    Memtest86+
    prime95
    SSD-Life Pro
    Dead Pixel Buddy

I'd also like something that tests the speeds of my ports, particularly is USB 3.0 running faster than 2.0, etc.

    Thanks,
    Z
