I just bought older M4700 and exchanged quadro K1000 for K2100M. I couldn't make it work with Win10 as it was only possible to use intel GPU on laptop screen with it - quadro was working only on DisplayPort. With optimus off i had no signal on laptop screen. (I tried full install and also upgrade from working Win7 both failed me) So i am back on Win7 and all is working as intended.

@csih : Based on pics of the M2000M card - it is bit longer than K2100M - There simply isn't enough place for it as memory slots are just few milimeters away from current end of the graphic card. Pitty..

There is slight chance for next gen based on Pascal core that we'll get short quadro with enough memory in next few months though.

One can only dream that BIOS will support it :)

Could someone please comment on these issues I stumbled upon when reading about the M4700?

    - Does the fan kick in and out instead of adjusting it's speed as the need arises? I know this has been an issue for people in the past, has Dell fixed it? Are there any workarounds?
    - Is the display prone to screen blackout/flickering etc? (with the Nvidia K2000M)

    Thank you.

I received an M4700 and apart from the machine being rock solid, I'm sad to report the fan cycling is really annoying. Even at idle, it cycles up and down erratically.

If I understand correctly, there are no fixes for this, right? I would really appreciate it if someone could mention any workarounds for it.

    Thank you.

My M6700 does this (same generation). My M4800 does not.

I've solved it somewhat on the M6700 by...
    * Using Optimus (NVIDIA GPU is off most of the time)
    * Install Dell Feature Enhancement Pack which adds some additional power options (you can do custom install and install only the power stuff)
    * In Windows Power Options, Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> Dell Enhanced Settings -> Thermal Mode -> "Quiet"
(note, setting to "Quiet" puts a cap on the CPU speed and may also cap GPU speed, my 3820QM caps off at around 2.4 GHz, if I am running a big job and need the CPU I just change the power profile)

Thank you for those! I'll try those settings and see how it goes.

Just out of curiosity, have you experimented with any Utilities to control the fan speed? SpeedFan comes to mind. I know in general it's a bad idea to manually control the cooling, but would like to know anyway.

    Thanks.

Dell sent a tech out to change this part of my M6700 (trying to fix something and this turned out not to be the fix). He had to pretty much take everything out, motherboard and all, and install it in the new case. The screen assembly upper part of the bottom chassis (palm rest / etc.) come off pretty easily but I don't think you can take off just the bottom part of the chassis.

That's what I was afraid of. It may not be worth the effort after all.

    Hi guys,
Maybe someone can give me answer for my case with precision m4700.
I tried overclock my m4700 nvidia quadro k2000m with evga precision software and crash when the card reached it limit.
Everything seem ok and nvidia driver restart by itself in windows, but after i shutdown and restart my laptop lcd become blank.
For the first time i think maybe the card become defect because i overclocked it, but until i put out the quadro card from my laptop and let it boot with intel IGP the things going same. LCD keep blank and no power.
I reset the bios and everything i can do, but no help. After that i make decision to take out the lcd panel and replace it with 14" lcd panel that not used at my garage and the boot screen showed up, success boot to windows with 14" panel back then.
And i order new 15.6" lcd panel from my local dell store, it take 2 week coming to my hand. I take out the 14" lcd panel and replace it with the new one from dell and everythine going fine.
So i continue doing overclock the GPU again but after several try, windows crash like the first case. I restart my laptop and that things happen again, lcd blank out/no power. Then i put out the new 15.6" lcd panel and replace it with the 14" panel again, the boot screen show up and everything just fine.
The new 15.6" lcd panel become defect same with the first one, no power. I am not doing overclcok GPU with the 14" afraid same case happen.
Anybody can give me explaination overclocking GPU cause LCD died ??? I am really confused with this case and want an answer.
    Thank you in advance.
