    it is very annoying
descriptions are in polish but it should be pretty obvious how much does that laptop cycle making it not usable during management meetings and such

btw at some point, end of this test, GPU fan just kept spinning making it audible but less annoying laptop

I dont know how its not useable, Im sitting in class right now and even asked fellow students if my laptop is bothering them with the fan noise and they said "your fan is coming on?".

i wouldn't compare classroom environment to an office setting though. U get a lot more auditory masking in university classrooms.

it's not funny, and very disturbing for speaker when during presentation where usually 5-10 people are listening what one has to say suddenly those fans go all out

all constant noises, air conditioning, other computers just blend in background while this Dell stands out

I don't see any fan issues, it seems a lot better than any previous 15" Precision with heat management, it's the first model I've not bothered repasting, or even cleaned out for that matter [since May last year]

Excessive fan cycling seems like more of an issue with Firepro power management than anything to do with the M4600 as such, the thread title is a bit misleading.

    That is the issue exactly

There is a thread with a fix in here if some really find it a bother.

Thats why I i put " " around the word issue, because it is not necessary an issue for everyone and have a lot to do with user's noise tolerances and cooling conditions (room temp, use of cooling pad)

Beside, if you bothered reading, in OP I did mentioned this "issue" seems to arise for those with firepro or with optimus disabled units (hence ones with IPS screen).

Since we're talking about not being able to read, here's the thread dave was talking about http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...5950-gpu-does-not-idle-poor-battery-life.html while this thread title doesn't indicate "fan issues", it's relevant and probably good to have in your thread given it's title.

I don't use optimus, nor a cooler, I guess I could be whistling a different tune if I had an XM instead of 2720...but doubt it somehow.

Dell won't void warranty if repasting is done correctly and you don't damage anything, it's been gone over before with mano-G [dell rep] and while they don't openly endorse doing so [understandable] it won't affect warranty if done properly and a failure wasn't caused by "user maintenance"

Not a traditional auditorium. Basically exactly like my office with semi raised drop ceiling and a level ground.

Please post the thread with a fix in it, I can't find it. My M4600 sounds like a hair dryer when I visit youtube if I don't have GPU acceleration disabled in flash. Pretty much anything that accesses the GPU causes the fan to spin up to full speed. Very frustrating!
