M4400 socket M 479 and P 478 difference?

Hello,

I just got a refurbished M4400 and I needed to take another.

I would back up my hard disk and use in a 2nd M4400 if the 1st fail to work,

usually If I'm not wrong to do so I should have 2 pcs with same MB/Chipset/Socket

could I have problems so if one is a 478 pin socket P and another a 470 pin M socket or doesn't matter?

I had a problem one time betwen two slightly different inspiron 1720 and I wasted an hard disk.

I will have on both PC a quad QX9200 CPU.

Please let me know your ideas/tipis/help! thank you

 

Socket M is Core Duo/1st gen Merom stuff, while Socket P is Santa Rosa and beyond. M4400 is Socket P, support pretty much everything, 1066 FSB Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad/Extreme CPU's.

 

thanks, usint core temp it show me that my system is a M 479 socket, can this 1 pin more make such difference? is this bad? was a refurbished pc, can be that the MB is not one of M4400 but of other model? however it work fine with QX9200 quad cpu. What is important for me is that if I move the hard disk from this M4400 to another where is P 478 socket I won't have problems to run that hard disk and use all my files/installations etc without problems. what do you think?

 

The way the sockets are named is quite frankly rubbish. Socket 478, 479, M, and P processors all have 478 pins on the CPU. Depending on the OEM for the motherboard socket, it may have 478 or 479 slots.

Between many hardware tools this information is reported incorrectly, or at best, inconsistently, so don't worry about what those say; what you're trying to do should work fine.

 

The m4400 can use all the core 2 quads, but from what Ive been told dont use anything more then a q9200 for heat and throttling. I was in the process of saving for one when mine started acting funky.

 

yes I know, I was looking for a Q9000 but find only the 9200 refurbished, thanks for now.
