M4400 screen won't turn off when lid is closed

    Whenever I close the lid, even on the BIOS screen, my screen won't turn off. Instead, it seems that the back-light comes on at full power and whites-out the screen.

    This also happens when computer is set to turn off the screen in Windows.

    Since this occurs on the BIOS screen (when Windows is not yet running) it is not a Windows-related issue.

    I am wondering if anyone else ran into this problem and what might be the solution.
