So I am so impressed with my m4400 RGB display will riding the train today that when I got off I thought I would just go to full brightness and be outside but when I got out and direct sunlight the display started going crazy. Red hue, then orange, deep blue, the black, the up, then back to black and stay off till I did a standby cycle. I tried it again later with the same result. It only seems to happen in direct sunlight ie i can't even get it to do that through auto glass. Very odd. What is going on here, is there a defect, does this screen have a light sensor, ect?

Looks like I could of just added it here sorry:

I am able to recreate the problem with a small flashlight when pointing it at the very right middle of the screen. I took a video to show you what I mean. I don't use this outside all that often but I swear I have seen it do it even with my halogen kitchen light...weird.

    Hi magudaman

The M4400 has an ambient light sensor, but it should only affect the brightness, not the hues. Anyway, to disable it, press the <fn> + <left arrow> keys and see if that helps.

    Kind regards,

Thanks I did insure that the ambient light sensor is off. I am really thinking that there may be a color temp sensor there or something.

Yah I talked to a rep and he was going to try it on a unit they had in house to see if could replicate the same problem. I hoping to if anyone here could try just using a flash light like I did to see if it does the samething. I let you know when that rep gets back to me to let you know.

Well like you said dell wants to replace the screen. Quite odd, I guess it is a defect.

Last update it seems that this is a known issue with this screen and they are working with the manufacture to get this problem fixed. The rep couldn't give me an estimate on time. I would always recommend calling in for serious problems like this, don't use the general chat system.
