    HI everybody.

Can anyone of you give me an explanation of why my M4400 does not post boot on a USB key preformatted to do so?
I am currently running BIOS A12 but the problem seems consisting on earlier versions aswell.
The same USB key has no problem in post booting on other laptops models except for this
    M4400?
The weird thing is that if I format a USB harddrive running on a power supply and put the exact same post boot files on this harddrive then my M4400 has not problems in recognizing and booting from the USB device?

What would be the solution to this problem?

1.) Have you checked that "enable legacy USB emulation" is checked in your bios? Also make sure that that the USB is allowed to boot BEFORE the hard disk or Cd rom

2.) It sounds like the M4400 doesnt like your USB key. I had a key that worked fine on another notebook but for some reason I had to keep trying different USB keys till one worked.

You didnt describe how you created the key. HOw did you do so?

    CruiseTown,

    thx for your reply.
USB emulation is enabled but neither this feature nor USB booting before the harddrive and CD-rom solves the problem with my M4400 not being willing to pre-boot on the USB key.
But you are actually right in your assumption of my M4400 not liking the USB key. I used a Kingston DataTraveler but happened to discover that the M4400 in general does not like Kingston keys...
With newly earned knowledge I am now able to pre-boot on USB using keys from other companies.
