Because of various problems I was having with my M4400, I decided to reformat and reinstall Windows (Vista Ultimate SP1).

Immediately after reinstalling, it started to freeze for up to 1 second every 10 to 20 seconds, which is really annoying. However, it doesn't miss any keystrokes or mouse movements, as it catches up after the freeze. I'm wondering whether it's got something to do with some unrecognised devices that it has yet to find the drivers for:

    PCI Serial Port
    PCI Simple Communications Controller
    SM Bus Controller

Before reinstalling, it used to freeze for around one second once or twice per day, and the keystrokes and mouse movements did get lost. This was one of the reasons I reinstalled, but I don't think it's related because the symptoms are different.

    Any suggestions?

Ehm yes....get all the latest drivers from the dell website and install them in this order http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/driver_install_order?~lt=print'

It's important that this is done right after installing the OS.

Thanks. I installed the missing drivers and it stopped freezing every 10 to 20 seconds. However, it's now gone back to freezing once or twice per day while I'm in the middle of typing something, and whatever I type gets lost. Does anyone else experience this?
