I was looking to purchase a DVD burner for my M4400. I noticed that dell list two compatible models, YP311 and XX243. On Dells website they both have identical descriptions. I assume Dell is just switching between two different manufactures. Does anyone have any advice if one functions better then the other? Has anyone had any trouble with their DVD burner? If so, do you know the model? Thanks

I've got the XX243 which for me is a Philips/Lite-On model DU-8A2S-03C (according to some Google searches, since I can't find a brand name, just model numbers, on the actual device). The order sheet for my laptop says Toshiba/Samsung so I found it pretty confusing figuring out which brand it actually is.

Whatever brand it actually is, it has worked well for me. I've had no coasters and all the media I've tried has worked on it. It also has ripped my CDs to FLAC quite well.

Hope that's at least some help to you.

That's the same 9.5mm SATA module as used for the E6400 / E6500 (and maybe other newer models).

I've also got the PLDS DU-8A2S. I had some problems when the computer was new but it appears they were caused by the Intel matrix storage software.

The E6400 downloads include firmware updates for two other make of burner: Panasonic UJ-862A and TSST (Toshiba-Samsung) TS-U633A.
