Here's my experience with my order for the m4400.

I placed an order on Aug 13th for the M4400 and received a ESD of Sept 7, 208. The sales rep promised to expedite the order for me. On August 14th, I called back to make a modification which resulted in the classic Dell - cancel and re-order dance (why can't they modify already placed orders?/). This cancel/replace led to a new ESD of Sept 8, 2008. A week later I noticed that the sales rep had added to my order a trial software for McAfee which I didn't request for and had specifically told him I didn't want. I asked them to remove this as I didn’t want this new pricey system to have McAfee on it for even a second. They said that wasn't possible - that I should receive the original order and uninstall McAfee myself or cancel and place a new order with of course a new ESD. I reluctantly agreed to receive the new order . By August 21, it was in the boxing stage, so I assumed by August 25th it would have at least been shipped. By midday August 27 it was still in the boxing stage, which seemed a little disconcerting given that it shouldn’t stay a full week in the boxing stage. Given that I was unhappy with the order having the trial software and the availability of better prices online, I decided to cancel that order and place anew order. I did so got an ESD of Sept 19 and also got it "expedited'.

Here I am on Spet 4, 2008 and the order hasn't even moved to the testing stage. Surprisingly, if I spec out the EXACT SAME system online I get a ESD of Sept 18th - ONE DAY EARLIER than my ESD for my order placed 8 day sago. Isn’t that odd?? Why would an order placed EIGHT DAYS LATER have a ESD earlier than the original order? Is there truly any proper sequencing to Dell’s orders? I mean this makes no logical sense

I've called Customer care several times - and have received the usual runaround with no resolution.

Any suggestions on what can be done to truly expedite my order and resolve this saga?
    Thanks!

Stuff like that always happens. It's like how people place orders after you, and get it before you. It all matters on configurations, part delays and what we call "Dell timing" aka good luck or bad luck for you.

Ultimately, you should have done your research and bothered Dell and this forum for a good few weeks before ordering the system. What I also do is, I make a configuration, let it sit in my head, search coupons, ask questions and repeat about 3 times before I order. The LCD change is ridiculous, you should've known what you wanted from the beginning :p! Then you hassle about McAfee, cancel, yadayada ... sounds like you're asking for the delay. Next time, just know exactly what you want, make sure the order is perfect in the invoice and tell them if theres any mistakes and let it be.

Other than that, good luck waiting =/

where di dyou get "LCD change". I didn't change the LCD. McAfee was Dell's error...which I was going to initially accept and uninstall myself...but after seeing the order stuck in boxing for a week.. i decided to cancel that odder and place an order with exactly what I wanted i - especially as I could get it for less at that point.

    The real frustrating things are:

    1. Others order long after you and get it before you -with very similar specs.

2.Dell tells you they are expediting your order but yet no apparent progress.

3.I order on Day 1 and get an ESD of Day 20, someone orders on Day 9 and gets an ESD of Day 19. isn't that strange??!! I love Dell, but Dell's inventory mgmt and order sequencing mgmt seems sub-par
