Hi I am looking for the Dell P/N 341-6957, the description is : 120GB 2nd Hard Drive 9.5MM 1.8inch 5400RPM for Mobile Precision MX400, I bought it for my M4400 as the 120GB Hard Drive, 5400RPM, E-Module to install it inside the DVD-ROM bay, I want to validate if it's possible to remove the 1.8 inch HD and install a 2.5 inch HD with higher speed and capacity, thanks

Instead of multiple new threads, just make 1 new one with everything in it? Did you try Dell's search? Did you talk to a sales rep?

The current media bay HDD unit will not hold a 2.5" HDD. The problem is that the media bay itself is only 9.5mm high, which is the same as a standard 2.5" HDD, but the bay unit has top and bottom covers over the HDD so it would be too thick (there's details of the construction in the service manual collection).

However, there's a report in this thread that Dell are working on another bay HDD unit which will hold a 2.5" HDD. It is technically feasible provided they design the unit as a caddy which has the top and bottom of the HDD exposed in order to avoid increasing the thickness.

Lenovo made it, hope Dell can follow (and maybe throw in a battery option there like the D series - could fight the HPs 24h notebook with 3 batteries :) )

I should think a battery fitting onto a SATA port would be unlikely.

Pending it's only a SATA port and note some combination as seen in the previous series.

Re the bay battery, I suspect the 9.5mm thickness made the capacity too low to be worth the effort. I looked in the bay and the only connector is the SATA interface.

The bay is a small esata not the reguler one the power side is about half the sise of the HDD one as I was going the try and put a spare sata 9.5mm in and push it in ad see what would happen but you can't do it so there will need to have a converter plug in the cady to accept a regular sata HDD.
