LG vs AUO : 14" 1920x1080 Anti glare

I had the chance to make the comparison side by side on two displays. I have posted my impressions of the two displays elsewhere but I thought this photo of the screens shows some effect of the difference in antiglare coating.

Just to be clear, this is not a typical outdoor shot to compare the screen itself, but to show how the coating affects the light being emitted from the display.

A quick glance on the glass surface / keyboard area makes the difference clear.

I have noticed that the heavier anti-glare coating on the AUO 14" panel causes slight reduction in the display quality due to the screen door effect. The 15.6" AUO panel on my E5570 does not have this problem. It's a matter of compromise - the sharpest displays don't have anti-glare coatings but also have the biggest glare problems.

Absolutely agreed John.

I noticed right off the bat that the LG screen looked "better" side by side, but honestly I wasn't bothered by the AUO's heavier coating. Probably to do with LG being warmer and I tend to like warmer displays.

Honestly, both displays looked great and I opened up some photos and looked at them side by side and they both looked great. I would be happy with either display.

 

Here are the LG and the AUO screens side by side.

It's the LGD046D and the AUO133D.

I've switched around the position of the screens to try to prevent any bias from the lighting and camera angles.

 

You can't measure this by eye, only by a colorimeter...

 

I have the LGD046D on my Latitude E6440 (February, 2016 built!). Very impressed overall, but I find things to be way over-saturated (ie: colour temperature way too high) and I can't seem to turn it down enough.

Weirdly enough, the Dell Configuration tool says the laptop was supposed to ship with the AUO panel, but it arrived, from the open-box refurb outfight I bought it from, with the LG. Every display in the house, even on my tablet/cell phone, except for one, is a LG panel at this point. I have a personal ban on buying Samsung products for a while, so it all worked out!

 

I'm not sure what exactly you are referring to.

This is the same experience I had buying straight from Dell. The Dell configuration said that it should be an AUO but it shipped with an LG. I have nothing against LG, I love their FHD panels on the E6510, but this specific one is way too "glossy" as seen in the pictures above.
