    Hey guys
this has really been doing my head in,
bought this little beauty for the wife, lovely 2 in 1 laptop, only had it a few weeks,
booted fine installed Kaspersky security/ Microsoft office, and that's about it, she has been using it no problem

then other day I went to use it, and it said dell had updates to install, so I thought why not,
then windows said it could authenticate one of the dell updates, did I want to continue installing it,

I hesitated for a 2nd, and thought well its dell right so wouldn't be anything malicious! so clicked install anyway,
a few second later laptop decided it was shutting down,
now when I boot it boots to windows, but no sooner as it has the sign in screen it says now "shutting down" and that's it and just does that contiuously, , I can access the bios setup and boot setup but no help there

have searched everywhere for a resolution, but cannot find anything, and stupidly didn't get round to backing up the system, and despite it coming installed with windows 10, dell will only give me windows 8 ISO to download,
there's not much on it, so happy enough to completely fresh install, but obviously it will be windows 8 and the upgrade to windows 10 has finished so not sure how that works either

so was hoping to at least get it into repair mode,

    help!

There are several possible fixes on the internet for Windows 10 boot loop problems eg this (read the discussion for tips on how to break the loop), this and this and you should try those first if you haven't tried already.

Next, have you tried tapping F8 a few times when the Dell logo first shows on the screen on reboot? This should get you to an advanced startup screen which includes a repair option.

You can get the generic Windows 10 disc image direct from Microsoft. It should recognise that you have a Windows 10 key in the BIOS and the details of any computers upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 went into the Mictrosoft database.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post,
have you read thru those 1st 3 links you sent me, I only ask, because, and im sure it might help people in a different situation, its fubared !!
how are you supposed to do what Microsoft are asking, if you cannot even get into windows! its flaming insane, I dread to think how many users this affected!

anyway rant over and in no way directed towards you :)

yep I think my only chance is either a repair using a windows 10 installation disc or a new install!

    great!

p.s hitting F8 does not do anything, only F2 or F12 which has limited options ! also tried the holding escape/ctrl option mentioned in a dell video, but think my model is too old for that to work, and someone in those links mention powering down and straight back up while holding shift button down

OK. I've just tried the F8 on my 7370 and agree that it doesn't do anything. So where have Dell hidden the door to get into recovery mode?

In this case your best option may be to create a Windows installation flash drive and boot from that then get into the repair mode and if that doesn't work then reinstall Windows 10. Note that you will need to use the F12 at the BIOS logo to get into the one-time boot menu. Once you have got Windows running then disable the automatic restart.
