I've already tried asking Hell for help but they got all anal and started talking about how I'm not the original owner and that I don't have a warranty or some crap.

I come to find out that I have 800 days of something called a precision care thing or something.... but I can't use it because I don't know the name of the guy I bought it from (on ebay).

So anyway I'm trying to update Dell Quickset so I can get the $#@ing buttons on the front of the screen to work properly and quickset gives me the error, "This is not a supported system."

I've tried many remedies (like uninstalling video card drivers, etc.) but nothing has worked... It just keeps saying that my system is not supported (meaning it's not a Dell or something)...

I don't know if it's because the installed Windows Vista Business is not Dell OEM or not... I think it's not...

    Does anyone have any ideas?

You probably need to install Dell Notebook System Software, then try reinstalling Quickset.

Also, as for the warranty support...you don't need the original owner's info aside from his full name. Since you don't have it, you might try ringing Dell to explain it was an eBay purchase and be prepared to provide any/all eBay emails to show you bought it. Also, eBay might let you get the seller's contact info which would include his name.

So fill out that form, and in about a week the warranty will follow the laptop and follow you.

Have you tried contacting the seller?

    Thanks for prompt reply!

Did install notebook system software; didn't help. Don't know owner's name. Person who sold to me doesn't respond to emails (numerous attempts). Person is a bulk seller from what I know... 3000 feedback.

When did you buy it? eBay used to have a way to obtain seller contact information...I've been trying to find it and cannot. It should still be there.

Perhaps you could file a claim in eBay? You could just settle it once the seller helps you get the warranty transfered.

I bought it a few days ago... about 3-4 days ago I received it.

I'm much more faithful about going to Dell and asking them to just give me ownership by providing info...

Try that tomorrow, and if that does not work continually persist in getting the seller's info. Email eBay, email the seller (and tell him you'll file a PayPal or eBay claim for the value of the warranty if you cannot transfer).

Wasn't there a name on the box you got the notebook in? You know, what they call a "return address?" :D

I've figured it out. The Vista that was installled on my machine was not "Dell OEM" but a off-the shelf one.

I need to download Dell OEM vista and reinstall vista via that for Quickset to work.
