    Hi,

Can anybody shed some light on the differences between the different smart card reader options available please?

    Some background info:

I'm searching a new notebook for a relative who needs a smart card reader because of professional reasons. The new notebook will be used for personal as well as professional use . His current professional notebook is a HP Elitebook 2560p which has an ISO 7816 certified internal reader.

Considering the possible options, my best bet currently seems to be a Dell Latitude E5550 which seems to check most of the boxes. (numeric keyboard, internal smart card reader, IPS screen, good battery life). However, I can't find any info on the specifications of the card readers, the most expensive one only states "FIPS 201 compliant".

So, if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing and/or knows something more about the differences between the card readers in the E5550 or just between ISO 7816 and FIPS 201, I would be very grateful. Other suggestions are welcome too (Lenovo?) but keep in mind I will be buying in Europe.

    Thanks in advance!
