Ordered an E6500 from the Outlet that has XP Pro installed with a Vista Business License. These are the details, focus on the bold portion:

"Purchase an eligible Dell™ system between June 29, 2009 and December 31, 2009 and visit the Dell™ Windows® 7 Upgrade Option program website at http://www.dell.com/windows7upgrade to register your system and set up your account. Registration deadline is January 31, 2010. Customers who register will receive an email notifying them when the upgrade is available. At that time, customers will be required to enter their credit card information to pay tax, shipping and handling charges. The upgrade kit will ship after payment is received (ship times will be quoted at the time of order). No Vista Home (Basic or Premium), XP or Linux Operating systems are eligible for the upgrade on business products. Vista Home Basic, XP or Linux Operating systems are NOT eligible for the upgrade on consumer products. The taxes, shipping and handling charge will vary by region. Please allow 10 to 15 business days from date of purchase for your service tag to be populated in our systems. ELIGIBLE SYSTEMS.... blah blah blah lists all the different models"

Does this mean my system won't be eligibile?

it should be eligible, but why dont you just call dell and ask instead of posting here? thats the only way to be 100% sure.

    Hi gauden44

The wording sounds like they won't let consumer OSs upgrade on business products, which is fair enough (i.e. standard XP or Vista Home can't upgrade).

In your case, you already have XP Professional and Vista Business, so you should be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. As afhstingray said, though, double-check with Dell to be sure.

P.S. Since Outlet systems aren't technically new, you might want to also ask if they're eligible.

mine was an outlet and it qualified. You just have to buy it after a certain date. I want to say the 27 (?); the exact date is on their website. I also had XP installed, but it was as a downgrade from Vista Premi. If you got one from the outlet, I suspect that is what you have as well. You should be fine.

It did take a few weeks to register however.

Perhaps there's a chance that someone has already been in my situation and knows the answer, saving time from having to call Dell. Don't have to be so hostile...

    Thanks nataz!

I bought a latitude E4300 from the outlet with the same XP Pro/Vista Business license you have and I was able to successfully register it on Dell's Win7 upgrade site. You have the Vista Business license, so you (and I) will receive Windows 7 Professional as per the upgrade path on Dell's website.
