I'm going purchase a new laptop sometime around July and will be considering the Latitude E6500 as part of my choices. any idea if they will refresh the model by then?

I think that there would be some. I mean we won't know until they happen most likely, but most computers don't stay the same for 6 months.

I'm guessing that the next Latitude refresh won't be happening until at least the launch of Intel's next generation platform, which isn't due until late this year. So in other words, I wouldn't bet on a refresh to the current Latitude line until next year.

However, there is supposedly this mysterious Latitude Z line that Dell is supposed to launch sometime in August. I've only read rumors of that in one of the threads in this forum, and it seems to be ridiculously expensive.

OKay, I think of refresh as "change little parts" and redesign as "make it all new" so I was talking about refreshing... it probably won't be redesigned by then...

I also think the refresh won't happen until the release of Calpella (or whatever they're calling the new platform now). Dell usually updates the Latitude line along with Intel's platform updates: Montevina -> E6400 family, Santa Rosa -> D630 family, Napa -> D620 family, Sonoma... so there's no real reason for them to buck the trend here...

What, you guys missed that ridiculous Z-series thread?! (I know not a refresh but strange nonetheless).

I think it's highly plausible actually.
