Latitude E7240 and E7440

E7440 A23 BIOS update has been released in response to the recent Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities.

Damn, sucks to hear about VM performance.

 

The A23 bios now gone from Dell driver download, not very reassuring...
Did flash it some time ago with no apparent problems (yet :O) so keeping it ftm while waiting for Intel to end their fumbling.

Good and bad news: The metal didn't move no matter what I did, which is good however it did cake together and I had to repaste.

 

A few days using A25 bios, everything (seems to be) working as it should, no problems detected anywhere (so far).

 

Still all well here with A25. And (this time) not removed from Dell download so probably no reported bugs.

 

I recently picked up a great condition E7240, but the touchpad drives me mad. I'm not sure whether I have a lemon, but the two finger multitouch scrolling is frustratingly inconsistent. Running Windows 10 and have tried a bunch of drivers to no avail. The issue is when you lift your fingers after two finger scrolling. Unless you lift them up exactly vertically, the touchpad will register a flick either up or down. This is extremely frustrating then reading a document. I've tested other laptops, and there is a clear tolerance when lifting the fingers which doesn't trigger movement. Perhaps I just have terrible two finger scrolling technique, but I haven't had this problem on any other laptop before.

Does anyone know if this behavior is normal? Or can be fixed with different drivers? Or knows which ALPs registry settings that can be tweaked? I have intertia scrolling on. Turning it off solves this problem, but the scrolling is extremely inconsistent with it off, sometimes scrolling very little and other times jumping.

Hey, I need a laptop to write my masters thesis (currently only have a gaming desktop and as I will be doing tests outside, laptop would help) and I'm looking forward to buy one of these, refurbished. Thing is, I only find these 2 models with the 1366x768 screen. How good/bad is this screen? Is this resolution too small, either for 12.5 or 14 inch?
