I see that Dell has announced upgrades to the 5000 and 7000 series notebooks. Any news or rumors about a 6000-series refresh? I like the form factor, onboard DVD drive, and discrete graphics options that the 64xx series has offered and I'm hoping that the 6440 isn't the end of the line for this type of machine. I'm looking for a replacement for my E6410 and would like an E64xx chassis with the latest processors and graphics hardware.

All of their lines have gone to a 3000/5000/7000 series branding. From what I can tell, the 6000 series is dead. A non-ultrabook 74xx-series model would be the logical replacement, but the E5470/E5570 are really closer to a E6x40 replacement than to the anemic 5x40/5x50.

Other than the onboard optical drive (dead pretty much across everyone's machines), you really should look at the E5470. It has discrete graphics available, some fairly high end processor options (much better than the E6440 which was dual-core only!) and a reasonably broad range of configuration options (at least via Premier.) Failing that, if you don't mind going away from Dell, the Lenovo T460p is the closest machine to a Dell E64x0... still no optical drive, though.
