No, but I did try it on my girlfriends Toshiba and it was a no-go...

Putting the SD card into an SD card to USB dongle worked like a charm though, so if it's just for an install, that might be your preferred solution if the SD card doesn't work.

I get the same thing with my Bytecc dual eSATA Expresscard (based on Silicon Image controller) on my E6420. I was figuring it's probably some sort of BIOS conflict. It won't even detect in Windows, yet it works on three other laptops and a USB 3.0 Expresscard works perfectly on this laptop.

So, is the upshot that that mini SATA FLASH port in the e6x20 is useless for SSD's, then? That's a whole-heck-of-a-waste of a port that could be used for a bootable mSATA SSD...... <sniff>

Did you try it with the current version (A05) of the Bios? Are you yure that it is a mSATA port and not a mini PCIe port?

No, I'm not sure, but the scarcity of documentation and information from Dell means that someone will just have to *try* these types of drives in that slot. I do not know for sure if it is mSATA or mini-PCIe and I have neither of these types of flash memory drives to test.

I was following erblemoof's attempts/info on the e6520 owner's thread thread...but as of the beginning of July with the A05 BIOS, he was unable to get an mSATA drive to work.... *sigh*.....what a waste of a slot.

I've heard of a new Bios Version in Beta (A06). Maybe it works with that version.

So...am still looking at making this work. May require a BIOS retooling, we'll see

I'm curious - erblemoof with the STartech card in the Flash SATA port, did you try booting from a Win7 DVD and then install Win7 to the Startech drive? Was it an option to at least install Win7?

Not sure if I should resurrect this thread or just keep posting in the main E6520 thread - but erblemoof - have you tried with the latest A12 BIOS.

Do we actually *know* if this is an mSATA or a PCI-E flash slot? What does the m4600 have? I assume that would have the same type of slot, but maybe I'm wrong?

If so, has anyone tried a real "mSATA" drive in this slot, or just a "true PCI-e" minicard?
