I currently have a Latitude E6400 that I LOVE...except for the display. I bought it from the Outlet and it was such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up. But it has the WXGA (1280x800) CCFL display and I really wanted the WXGA+ LED. Thankfully, I have a friend who's itching to buy it for exactly what I paid. I've only had it for four weeks, so I feel that it's a fair, win/win deal!

I'm in the process of finding its replacement, again from Dell Outlet. I'm seriously thikning about stepping up a size to the E6500 and getting the WUXGA (1920x1200) display. The Outlet also has a surprising number of Precision M4400s in stock, too. I've also found several of those with the WUXGA display that I want.

I don't "need" the more powerful graphics card in the M4400. But I really like (make that- LOVE) the exterior design of the Precision!

Other than the different graphics cards and the exterior styling, are there any other differences between the E6500 and M4400? It's my understanding that they share the same chassis and the only difference once you open lid is the model name above the keyboard. True? Or are there other differences?

At this point, the only potential concern of mine is whether the M4400's GPU generates noticeably more heat than the E6500? I won't be gaming or doing any GPU-intensive tasks, btw.

Any input you guys have will be appreciated!

I'm curious about this too. Besides the m4400's curvy lid and more powerful graphics card...and the ability to customize it with a bit more power...what else is there? I've got a xps m1530 at the moment and it doesn't get very hot at all. Do you have the quadro in your e6400? If so, how is the heat when it sits on your lap...bearable?

Those are pretty much the only differences although i believe there's more room for upgrades in the M4400, quad core CPU, 8gb RAM. One major one though is the RGB-LED screen, don't think that's available for the e6500 and it seems to be about the best screen out there.
If you can find a good deal on a system with that screen i'd definetly go for it!

I had the same dilemmas with my purchase, since I was coming from D830 with the WUXGA screen. I've took a E6400 with LED since I'm working mostly at home with an 24" screen. Missing the WUXGA on the laptop thought at times, but I like the smaller size/weight of E6400.
