    Hi,

    I have a latitude E6500 with an nVidia Quadro NVS 160M and I was wondering if there are any more gaming-specific cards compatible with this laptop.

    I know chances are very small there are any that fit, but I was just wondering.
    I can't find anything about graphics card upgrades on dell site, so I'm assuming its not supported in any way. I should be able to do the upgrade myself.

    Has anyone opened up his E6500 yet and checked if any other graphics card 'fit' in?

    Thanks in advance,
    Eli

    It is soldered to the motherboard. You can't replace it. It may be possible to replace your motherboard with an M4400 motherboard, but I don't think the M4400 GPU is a terribly big improvement over the NVS 160M.

    Oh ok, that's too bad then. :-( Thanks for the info anyway! And how do you know for sure it's soldered to the motherboard? Or does this just always happen with graphics cards for laptops?

    It almost always happens with laptop graphics. If you look at the E6500 service manual, you can see that it's just another chip on the motherboard. Furthermore, if it was removable, there'd be a service manual entry for the GPU module.

    NVS160M= geforce 9300GS, 2000ish 3dmarks06

    FX770M= geforce 9600GT 6000ish 3dmarks06

    its definitely a chip soldered to the mobo, i've seen it myself.
