Does the Latitude e6440 (with AMD Radeon) also suffer from the heating/throttling issues of e6540 or is it better?

    Cheers

I think not, it only has dual core options. I guess Dell knew they were pushing the E6540 cooling system with Haswell and they probably realized that they won't be able to get away with it in a 14 inch chassis.

heat seems quite fine. I aint noticed extra hot. might even put a 4700mq inside despite only a 90w adapter.

Is the fan noisy when it's under a load?

I have the e6420 that is almost out of warranty I was going to order the e6440 as I like the 14" screen and need to have a dvd drive in my computer for work but didn't want to stick with the e6400 series if there haven't been improvements with the fan.

I think its noisy but acceptable because its not like a gaming laptop type where the fans are designed to be pushed really hard so the noise is not the same which makes it more tolerable. notebook check said the fan goes as loud as 44db. but seems lower. the e6420 was rated 42.9db so that's about the same really. it might be slightly noticeable to you. but what you trade over compensates with latest hardware. alternatively if you want a business book quiet as. get a Lenovo. they are the strongest of the 3 giants for the quietest machine. infact dell is the worst for noise. hp are doing a "better job" than before but quieter than what you got.so yea elitebook 840 or probook 640 if you really need the dvd drive. actually these was my choices before the e6440 but my price was unpassable to spend £500 more for same specs butt with a 8750m instead and ULV cpu.

Thanks for input but I will stick with a Dell computer I guess I will check on other 14" without the dvd drive as that seems to be where things are going.
