Anybody else tried this? I got a driver to work, but I only get about 70.

How do I tell if it's running N?

You should be able to examine the properties of the wireless connection. For example, I can see this on my computer in Windows 10:

    SSID: **********
    Protocol: 802.11n
    Security type: WPA2-Personal
    Network band: 2.4 GHz
    Network channel: 4
    IPv4 address: 192.168.2.110
    IPv4 DNS servers: 192.168.2.1
    Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
    Description: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260
    Driver version: 20.10.1.3
    Physical address (MAC): *********

If you are in n mode (see Protocol) and getting very slow speeds then you should look for other factors such as poor router performance or congestion on that band on the router. WiFi analyser software should help with this. InSSIDer used to be good but there might now be better software.

My 6300AGN is matched by my AC 8260 and my 7260 and usually beaten until I reach the end of my house, where they're about equal

Thanks for replies. Think I've got it working now, but some issue with the Bluetooth Stack I'm trying to sort out.
