    Hi,

I have a Latitude E6410 with 4gb Ram - 2 x 2gb PC3-12800 sticks. I am thinking of upgrading to 8gb as I have Windows 64bit installed. I've been given 2 x 4gb PC3-10600 sticks and I was wondering if it would run on my laptop and if it would would it be better than using the 4gb PC3-12800 ?

Many thanks in advance guys !

I'm pretty sure the E6410 won't run memory faster than PC10600, so the 2x4GB is without a doubt better.

Even if you were running PC12800 at the nominal speed, memory speed differences are pretty much negligible in most applications.

That being said, you still won't notice a difference between 4GB and 8GB if you weren't utilizing all 4GB already.

Thanks for the reply. Since I have the 8gb going free I might just pop it in and see how I go. I'm due to upgrade the hard drive to SSD anyway so will do it all the same time.

    Many thanks

Actually, if you were utilizing a lot of that RAM, even not all and you're running on a HDD, superfetch might benefit from that RAM and you may notice an improvement in load times for your most used programs. That's mostly it though. I also found that Windows 7 & 8 tend to take more RAM at boot on the same system depending on the amount of memory installed, not a lot, but there is still a difference. My idle RAM usage went from ~1.6 GB to ~ 2 GB when I went from 16 GB to 32 GB.

The SSD is really what will make the biggest difference, you won't be able to get back to "spinning rust" afterwards.
