    Hello all Dellienware is back.

Anyways I am trying to figure out if the generic DVD ROM Battery will work with E6400 in terms of charging and holding charge.

It's not OEM, but I have this in mind:
    Dell External DVD-ROM CD-ROM Battery 6 Cell Battery 6 Cell (49Wh) | eBay

Please let me know if the motherboard is compatible and if any of you guys used it with your latitudes in the past.

(It is so sad to go from AW M18x and loaded Precision M6600 to E6400... The economy man..)

I don't think that option works with your laptop model.

Does E6400 supports the DVD rom battery at all? I know the older models did but the newer models dont.

I am assuming that since it is the new design from the D series, may not support on the mobo. Same with precisions. Supported the older M series

I know slice is out there, but im just reducing the cost and the thickness...

    Perhaps anyone tried it??

There is no E-Series support for media bay batteries at all. Period. There are no connectors but a SATA connector in the media bay.

There is support for modular bay batteries on the E-series (E-Modular Bay II), but only starting with the E6X20 generation. On the E6400 and E6410, there is no power connector in the modular bay slot.

    Gotcha. Straight forward answers.

Anyone have experience with the battery slice in terms of mobility? I am thinking of getting one for class. I rather get the slice than say a 9 cell normal battery.. Rather ask this question here than to create another thread.

    Thank you all again!

Robin24k is right. There is media bay support for the E6x20 and E6x30. I assumed that Dell would keep E-Series peripherals consistent throughout the "family" (as with C and D series), but it looks like Dell threw that idea out the window too.

With the mid-cycle redesign, they changed the faceplate of the modular bay, hence the introduction of E-Modular Bay II. It's electrically compatible, just not cosmetically (except for the External Bay Module, which is universal).

How much battery life do you need? If you need more battery life than the 9-cell can provide, then you have no choice. Otherwise, the 9-cell is much less bulky.
