my sister is looking to buy a new lappy, and the Latitude E6400 looks like a good choice. since she plans on ordering it in a few weeks, i'd just like to ask if anyone knows about any upcoming deals, sales, coupon offers, or perhaps changes to the config (especially regarding the colored lids - she'd like to have one, but the required config busts the budget). thanks in advance.

EDIT: also, any glaring issues with this particular machine? i couldn't find anything, but maybe you know more.

If you want to save some money, you could look for deals at Dell Outlet. I saved close to 50% with a 15% off coupon I got from eBay. I'm not sure when these coupons come out though.

Overall, I think this is fantastic laptop. Everything feels sturdy, and the looks are very clean. No unnecessary lines, decals, or gimmicks. The LED screen and backlit keyboard are very nice and make it much nicer to use. The keyboard itself feels very good.

    Hope this helps a little

thanks for the infos. will take a look at the outlet. i have a question about the backlit keyboard - is it standard now? i can't find an option to order it on the configuration site, but it's listed somewhere as "optional", and i don't want to order it for my sister without - she's seen backlighting on my m15x, and really wants it too.

It depends on the configuration ordered with...so it should be listed as such in the outlet. Make sure to get a great deal though, since you might get a lackluster quality unit which requires a ton more time to deal with like my own experience (my 4th and hopefully 100% hardware good E6400 is on the way to me). I was able to get them to give me a free upgrade to a colored lid as well, so yay! Also, if you want the color option, make sure to order it as soon as possible as Dell never has them available typically.

Dell has not posted anything about the free upgrade to Windows 7. Microsoft announced that any Vista PC bought between June 26 and January of next year will receive a free upgrade to the equivalent version of Windows 7. Don't know whether the upgrade applies to Outlet PC/laptops.

Good to know that Dell is with the prpgram. Most likely Outlet purchases are covered, too.
