There are a fair number of companies who order laptops for everyone, and where a good portion of the non-technical office staff then docks their laptop as soon as they get it and never cracks it open during the workday and just does a little email from home (and probably a lot less of that now with smartphones.) I suspect that's the bread and butter of the lower-spec E5xxx Dells and the lower-spec non-S Lenovo T-series.

Why they offer that in combination with high-spec machines is beyond me; anyone who'd care enough to get a quad core, or a dual core i7, is going to want a non-cr*ppy screen.

My point exactly with those two configurations. The lower spec CPU with integrated graphics has a SSD, the better CPU with dedicated GPU has a HDD. Daily use, the lower spec Latitude will be faster than the higher spec. I find this total nonsense, especially since HDD is the clear bottleneck in most configurations.

le: oh, a third configuration just showed up today. i5-6440HQ with integrated graphics - yay; 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD booo.
Really can't see the logic :)

For retail, rather than corporate specs, I suspect a lot of it is some idiot in marketing trying to meet a price point. "It'd be too expensive if we add the SSD!"

There are also a lot of power users on the consumer side who will buy with minimum RAM and hard drive, then add their own RAM and SSD. I've usually done that in the past.

@tr0tt3r i'm quite intrigued now on how to do it exactly. Let's say i go for an Adata sp600ns SSD (128 and 256GB, the only models i can buy having a 2242 format). How do i connect it to the motherboard? Can you point me to what other pieces/cables do i need?
@John Ratsey - interesting enough, only 2 of the current 7 configurations of E5570 come with HD screens. I tell you, there's no thinking behind those configurations :)
@mr_handy I understand, but keep in mind how much time you lose with a system on a HDD. Comparing that almost counter-productive configuration to a slightly more expensive one with SDD, you'll gain that price difference in no time, based on the productivity an SSD gives.

You need the SSD :) and I guess a screw to hold it down. That's all. The image above is not entirely accurate, because you do not need to link the two antenna cables to the ssd.
Go to the 5470 thread. There is a user there that installed a 2242 ssd and ask for more details.

My eyes have been complaining recently so I thought it time to try something bigger than a 14" screen. A selection of the E5570 has just appeared on Dell UK Outlet and, after rummaging through the pile I chose one with the i5-6440HQ CPU, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, FHD display and the 6 cell 84WHr battery. Only a couple had the backlight keyboard and the other had the i5-6300U CPU which wouldn't be a noticeable upgrade from my current i5-5300U. If I don't like it then it can always go back.

I received my E5570 last week and so far so good. One question, I ordered it with the AMD Radeon R7 M370, but when I check in Device Manager it shows both the AMD adapter as well as the Intel HD Graphics 530 adapter. It also has the Intel Graphics Control Panel app installed. Does the system actually use both? If so, how does it decide which to use?

It uses both, yes. OS knows when to switch to dedicated.
Please let me know if you have problems with temperatures during heavy workloads or gaming. I'm a bit afraid of that reading some reviews around.

@John Ratsey would love to know what you think about it once you get to use it a couple days.
