I recently installed a 256 SSD in the Sata drive as my main SSD and a 256 MSATA drive as a storage drive in the E5440. I cloned the drive using eas-us, which I have used in the past and it worked just fine.

I recently have had an issue when waking from hibernation. When waking from sleep, it wakes just fine. I currently have it set up to hibernate after 120 minutes (I figure... why not). The issue is that it loads the dell startup screen about 3 times, like 1 (on for 1 second showing dell), off, on second time (1 second showing dell logo), off, on the third time (this time it shows the dell logo but shows the standard windows swirling circle in the lower middle of the screen). After the 3 screen flashes and about 15 seconds (longer than it takes to cold start) it resumes like normal.

I have had other computers that don't do this issue when waking from hibernation. I am wondering if I should just disable hibernation and measure the battery drain over night. Last night I slept it at about 8pm at 72% battery and when I woke and checked it at 7am it was at 71 or 70%. I guess I can measure the drain while sleeping opposed to hibernation and just disable hibernation and see if thats any better.

As for the hibernation issue, could it be something about the cloning of the HDD? Is there something I am doing wrong? Any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    1. The multiple posts were caused by some forum glitches. It's been taking a couple of minutes to update the database.

    2. I suggest you disable hibernation and ensure that hiberfil.sys is deleted, then re-enable hibernation. It's possible that the computer is still looking for hiberfil.sys on the previous drive (which is no longer in the computer).

    3. Or if battery drain is only 1% /hour when sleeping then it's not going to put much wear on the battery. I'm just using sleep on my E7440 but I,m leaving it plugged into the mains power. However, if using sleep then work through the power management options for the devices in Device Manager and disable any "Allow this device to wake the computer". Otherwise, for example, software can wake the computer in the middle of the night because it wants to check for an update.

Thanks for the quick reply. Currently I am testing how much drain is occurring while just sleeping it, I have disabled hibernation. I will check the hiberfilsys file and delete it and try again if I don't like the results from the sleep test. I do currently have the hybrid sleep turned off so hopefully nothing it waking it up to check for something.
Keep up the great work with the forum and thanks again.

You can use Event Viewer > System Log in the morning to see if there was any activity during the night.
