I currently have a E4300 with the SP9300 CPU (BGA package soldered on the board). I would like to replace it with a SP9600 main board. (just for the hell of it).

Have any E4300 owners attempted this by chance? There are numerous boards with different part numbers available on ebay, but some include base and daughterboard components. I was hoping to replace just the main board with cpu included. The fact that there are so many complete base replacement parts (boards and complete base included) it is making me think the swap won't be as straight forward as it looks in the Dell tear down manual.

My unit has the Latitude on reader, and no fingerprint reader. Anyone know what main board part number would be compatible?

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

All the motherboards/bases should be compatible with each other on the E4300. You shouldn't even need to muck around with heatsinks since there are only IGP variants. All of the motherboards will come with the soldered CPU as well, so there's basically no way you can go wrong here with respect to your particular concerns.

I've picked up a mainboard off ebay (manufacturer refurbished), and my main concern is whether the existing service tag and AMT code are going to work. The original board is a SP9300 cpu, and replacement is SP9600, so different config.

The tech sheets on the Dell support site state that the new board will need the proper AMT code (marked on back of base panel) will need to be input. But since the replacement is a different config than original?......

Hopefully all will go okay cause there's no warranty left, and I'm not about to try calling Dell off warranty support for new codes.

If you don't have any warranty left on your machine, the service tag is more or less useless, so don't worry about it.

As for AMT: if you don't use it, again don't worry about it. If you do use it, and need it to be set at a certain code, I don't think you can change it.

    Good to know.

The dell documentation made it sound like the board won't function without them.

    Thanks.
