So I'm headed off to college next fall, and I'm looking for a computer set up. After some research, I'm leaning towards a Latitude E4300 (with decent specs) and the above mentioned display. The idea is to have a powerful, yet portable notebook for taking to class and mobile study sessions, then having the display function as almost a desktop computer. Has anyone had a similar set up before? Any experiences or suggestions?

Check to see if the E-stand has a VESA mount. If it does you can shop around for any LCD with the mount and it should be compatible. Dell LCDs may not be the best deals around.

Don't you need the media-bay addon to have a dvi port? Otherwise you are stuck with a vga interface to the monitor, which is sub-standard, IMHO. Otherwise the E4300 (or the even smaller E4200) would be a great college notebook.

video output should be fine through the dock, the e4300 doesn't have native DVI or HDMI output.

I have an E4300 with the monitor stand and dock. I have a 20 inch Dell 4:3 on it (prefer the additional vertical landscape over a widescreen) hooked up via DVI. I also have the speaker bar too. The regular docks snap into the base of the monitor stand.

I can post pictures tomorrow if you'd like.

Which dock do you have, one of the port replicators? The Dell site lists 2, the E-Port Replicator (Dell Part# 430-3113) and the E-Port Plus Replicator (Dell Part# : 430-3114). It's not clear from the web site if the Plus is compatible with the monitor stand.

    Pictures would be great, thanks!

I have the regular replicator PN 430-3113. The Plus comes with 2 DVI ports, 2 VGA ports, serial port, and PS/2 ports in addtion to the USB, display port, and eSATA ports. The regular comes with 1 DVI, 1 VGA, USB, display port, and eSATA.

For what it's worth, I've got about a dozen of those screens here at work and everyone that has used them hates them. The color representation, contrast ratio, and viewable angles are horrible, even for TN screens.

The Ultrasharp 2009W is still a TN panel (meaning it's cheap) but is of much higher quality (higher resolution too). I'd recommend you get that instead.

Nice setup, thanks for the pictures.

After doing more research, I believe the plus will work with the flat panel stand. Link to docking options.

I have E4200 on Dell G2410 setup. E flat panel stand supports both VESA and Dell monitors. It looks awesome and works very well. I love how my tiny laptop converts to a full featured desktop within a second. No more plugging any cables, ever.

Biggest difference between E port plus and E port is that, E port plus supports 2 DVI/DP and PS2/Parallel/Serial ports. I don't need any of those so I use E port mainly. At work, I have E port plus for managing switches because it uses serial port.

G2410 monitor is awesome. It has ambient light sensor so when I turn on/off lights, I am always at right brightness. I know wire for keyboard looks stupid but I just love these logitech illuminated keyboards for late night work.
