    In August 2007, I purchased a powerful Latitude D830, Intel Core 2 Duo T7700, 2.40GHz, 800Mhz 4M L2 Cache, Dual Core DELL laptop...that never worked.

I have never been more disappointed in the quality of a purchase in my entire life. :(

I bought a powerhouse, including docking station, monitor, and wireless mouse, from DELL and was never able to get the issues resolved!

After several calls, emails, and documented chat logs for more than a year, including two separate techs to troubleshoot and repair on-site, I was finally promised a replacement of equal or better value.

The techs replaced the motherboard, CPU, and Memory, but diagnostics run on the hard drives displayed errors the techs had never experienced and didn't know how to fix. One of the Techs said I obviously bought a “lemon” and they’d seen it happen before.

Despite my extended warranty, DELL would not give my money back. After I got the BBB involved last month, they agreed to replace it with a NEW, not refurbished, laptop of equal or greater value...but never shipped the replacement because "shipping is on hold until after the holidays."

What holidays? Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day, Boxing Day (??!!!???) WHAT?

They just informed me that shipping may be on hold even longer because of the excessive holidays coming in January and February.

The support person also said, "Everyone knows about Boxing Day. It's on the US calendar."

I suppose they'll keep making excuses until my extended three-year warranty expires in 2010.

Do you think I'll ever get my money back, or at least the approved "exchange"?

I'm not holding my breath. :mad2:

Frankly, I was really shocked about the lack of quality and service. The company has obviously gone downhill. I don't appreciate losing the money, either, especially for what turned out to be a very expensive paper weight on my desk.

It was hard enough to be unemployed and to lose 1/2 my retirement in this economy, but my one tool for sending resumes and networking for full time employment was another economic drain since it was deemed completely useless.

OK. Dell have agreed that your D830 is a lemon and are in the process of replacing it.

The replacement has to be scheduled for production. It is possible that, if you speak nicely to someone in customer service, they can escalate your case to someone who can then expedite the shipping. There are plenty of people who go back to Dell because of the quality of their customer service.

i dont know if its just america where dell has horrible customer service, i travel between malaysia, singapore, and the UK for almost equal parts of the year, and i've made many, many purchases from dell and have had nothing but good experiences with them, aside from two tech's which dint know what they were doing, but that was resolved by dell swiftly

one of them damaged my graphics card while replacing my LCD, i got a replacement the following day....that was 2 years ago, and recently one tech was really really rough with my precision, and broke the screen bezel and dint even put the laptop back together properly, again, resolved swiftly by dell. they're sending me a brand new precision! should be here by the 12th.

if you're not satisfied, ask to speak to their level 2 DTS
