I'm in the process of trying out Ubuntu Linux on my D800, as I've finally taken it out of service after 8.5 years since I've purchased a HP Envy 17. The D800 used to sit on a port replicator with an external mouse, so I've not used the trackpad nor the touchpoint for quite some time.

Now that the D800 isn't on its replicator any longer, neither pointing device seems to work. They're recognized by the OS as both the installed copy of Windows XP and the LiveCD of Ubuntu 11.10 both see the mouse and put one up on screen. I've toggled all the BIOS options back and forth and I don't seem to get any use of either device. I've also removed the keyboard, reseated the keyboard cable as well as the touchpad cable and it didn't make any difference.

Anyone have any idea of what might be the issue and a possible fix? I'd rather not resort to an external mouse as the fix, though I can't figure out why both pointing devices don't seem to function correctly without any apparent cause.
