I like my D830. WUXGA screen, 2 speakers, and the ExpressCard slot (which I use for a CF reader) are big advantages for me.

But I'm not a fan of the size of the machine. I'd like a little bit smaller.

But if you got a smaller one, you would have to compromise on the screen resolution. That's probably the biggest difference...

D630 is light and good looking, but if you want a video maker, D830 will be the best choice because you just can own NV Quador 135m which is not a very good graphic card. The NV Quador 140m on D830 is one of the best

    Hi pitz ,

I'm going to buy this config :
    D830
    CPU : T9300 2.5GHz , 6M 800M
    RAM : 4G
    VGA : Quadro 140M 256M

But I'm only not sure about the vga , I don't know how better is quadro than geforce , could you explain it in detail ?
Are you a gamer ? could you explain the performance of your laptop(D830) in gaming?

    thanks

I'd almost rather wait until Dell goes back to ATI, but I have no idea when that will be, and the laptops seem to be pricier then. I've never been a fan of Nvidia, and know little about their laptop cards.

It's roughly in the arena of an 8400M GT.

I finally placed my order today for the D630. I got my hands on one and decided I would be okay with it. Estimated Ship: 6/20/2008. I'm hoping sooner.
    Specs:
    Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHz (T8300)
    WXGA+ 14.1" Screen
    2GB RAM
    128MB Nvidia 135M
    120GB 7200RPM HDD
    DVD Burner
    Fingerprint Reader
    Vista Ultimate w/ Media
    Bluetooth
    Intel Wireless a/g/n
    6 Cell Battery
    3 year warranty/on site

    Cost: $1,309.61 shipped

I'm debating if I want to add accidental damage to it after it arrives. I tend to "abuse" my machines, at least that is what everyone tells me. When my current (Inspiron 6000) makes me mad, it gets hit. I don't think, I just react, so it may be a good idea, and it's only $150 more for all 3 years.

I'm expecting a major improvement from my current setup (minus the resolution):
    Pentium M 2.0GHz
    1GB Ram
80GB 7200 RPM HDD (was an 80GB 5400RPM but it failed a week ago, so I got the cheapest craigslist replacement, which happened to be faster)
    Windows XP Pro
    CD Burner/DVD ROM
    1680x1050 Resoultion
    ATI X300 128MB Video

All I need is something to play some games on, mostly Sims 2, to kill the time at work - hope it runs nicely on the new machine. Once I get the new one in, I'll probably sell the old one, have to figure that one out still.

I really hate the waiting process. I just want to see it at my doorstep.

Congrats darkcirca! You'll love it. Yeah, waiting takes a bit but it'll be worth it. ;)

Have fun when it arrives :)

The 9-Cell's acually not half bad-It has a rubber like top that kinda makes a good palm rest. :)

Yea I believe it had a delay when I was purchasing, so I avoided it. I usually plug in anyway, as all my classes have plugs (usually), and my work does too. I might get it in the future..

If you can plug in frequently, its a good idea to have the 6Cell, its lighter and more compact. It should pull 4hrs on the battery easily, if needed.
If you want to play Sims 2, you won't probably be dissapointed...frankly I was, I expected XPS M1330-like 8400M GS performance out of the 135M but recieved rather the performance of the 8400M G, which is sufficient for older games but won't cut it @ 1440x900 in CS:S.
