    hey all,

i was just wondering about a couple of things about my d630 and see if i am out to lunch or is there something wrong with my laptop?

    1. The Fan, the fan seems to run on full throttle all of the time. i used to have d800 and it will never did that. Its not like it does it when its hot or needs power, but the fan runs at full speed all of the time? is this ok?

    2. Battery life - may be due to the fan, but my regular cell battery only lasts about an hour or an hour or 15 max? is this normal?

    3. Network - For some odd reason, the little internet icons that load at start up in the system tray take about (4-5min) each time xp restarts? it is very very annoying because everything else loads fast but that takes for every? i have the dell wifi utility and i am not sure if that is causing any problems?

    please help out,

    thanks alot

    Hmmm...

    1. Most of the time my fan runs at low speed and you can just make out the noise it makes. Where are you using the laptop? If your covering up the underside of the system on a soft surface (like a blanket) the fan usually cranks up high after a bit to try and make more airflow.

    2. That could be from a variety of factors, your battery could be worn significantly (batteries like these lose their charge over time). It could be your power management settings-Control Panel-Performance and Maintanance-Power Options. (is the machine set to "Minimal Power Managememt" or "Always On" instead of "Max Battery" or "Home/Office Desk"?)

    3. I'm not sure about this one, as my machine comes with Vista Business and it handles my wireless connection. QuickSet on my machine doesn't provide a way to manage wireless connections.

How long have you had your D630?

    thanks alot,

i only had it for a month now,

the battery cant be that worned down in a month?

i changed the setting to minimal in power management,

as for the fan, i put my laptop on a desk all of the time and nothing is blocking the fan. like as i am typing this, its running pretty hard, i can hear the difference between when it runs slower or faster,

i am not running any crazy apps either, just firefox and antivirus etc,

    thanks

Something is likely taxing your processor to 100%. If you are running Vista, hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc and check your CPU usage, also go to the processes tab and click where it says "CPU" to see what is using up all of the power.
