    Hello gang.

I am posting here hoping to get some information from you hackers and DIY hardware guys.

I have a D620 that I intend to repurpose, and it will not need a screen or keyboard. But the keyboard assembly includes the power button, so I cannot power the system on without it.

First question is whether or not the keyboard can be hacked apart... That is to say cut and remove everything except the top of the assembly where the power button lives. This would assume that none of the circuit traces for the power button flow under the main body of the assembly (under the keys) and would also assume that the machine wouldn't give any sort of keyboard errors on boot.

Second question would be if it is possible to obtain the pinout of the keyboard connector, whereby I could fashion a power switch directly to the connector, and bypass the need for a keyboard altogether.

This current project is built on some old parts I had laying around, and I do not have a spare keyboard that I can try to hack apart to find circuit traces etc.

    Thanks.
