Hi, I want to be able to use this as a portable movie player in a hotel room. Can this play movies and allow me to understand dialogue with the mono speaker?

    Thanks!

You will understand it, but it probably won't be an enjoyable experience. You should get a pair of earphones.

its ok. you can hear dialogue and stuff. imagine listening to a cheap alarm clock radio.

use headphones, or portable speakers, makes a big difference. best option though is to use headphones. if ur watching with a friend (or boyfriend/girlfriend cosy in bed ;)) you can use a headphone splitter that can be bought for a couple of bucks.
