I know its an old a$$ laptop buts its built like a tank and works great, but i have not noticed any change in performance since tinkering around with it.
I have made some upgrades on my Dell Latitude c840 and have not changed BIOS. Upgrades:

    -CPU from 1.8 to 2.4 ghz P4
    -G-force 4400
-512 MB RAM to 1 GB
    -90 GB HD
    -running XP pro
Currently i cannot change any settings in my BIOS setup, except time and date.... version is A13 (Phoenix).

    Any recommendations?

A13 is the last BIOS for the C840. You should be able to change more than just the date and time, though. Did you try Alt + p to flip through the pages, etc?

Thanks for the Reply Commander, I believe i did but it would let me edit anything else. BTW, when looking at CPU speed it recognized the 2.4 GHz CPU but said it was running at 1.2 GHz... The Bios pages looked totally different than any others i have seen...

Take a picture of the BIOS page? Maybe you've got a password on it or something?

I want to say that the CPU speed is at 1.2GHz due to SpeedStep, but I don't think SpeedStep should be active while you're in BIOS...
