The slot was marked WWAN/SSD in Dell's documentation but not on the production boards.

Until someone finds an M.2 SSD with the appropriate physical size (42mm long, width up to 30mm) and with the right interface and tries it an an E7450 we won't know if it will work. The WWAN card uses a USB 2.0 interface. SiSoftware Sandra reports that there is an unused PCIe channel so the issue is whether this is wired up to the M.2 slot and available for a suitable PCIe M.2 SSD. This SSD would be worth testing if one can be borrowed to prove whether it works. However, with capacity of up to 64GB it wouldn't do much to boost the storage but, if it works, then it's worthwhile watching out for higher capacity compatible SSDs, if it doesn't then forget about a second SSD. A 3042 form factor SSD would also fit in the slot, but these are even rarer than suitable 2242 SSDs.

As for the E7440, it remains a good alternative if you can find one. My E7450 is a significant enhancement over my E7440 because I was able to grab the dGPU version with its quieter fan.

Help! The 7440 keyboard protector does not fit the 7450, and I tried searching on Amazon and eBay and there seems to be no keyboard protector designed for the 7450. Has anyone come across a solution to this problem?

Finally pulled the plug and upgraded the RAM and SSD, using the 2.5" evo, but it won't lie flat. There's a cable underneath where the SSD cage was, and it's preventing my SSD from lying flat. Anyone here having the same problem? Do I need to get some other part to secure it?

Also, Samsung Magician is saying that AHCI is not enabled. Does anyone know how to fix that?

    1. Did you use the 2.5" drive fixing bracket? This holds the drive snugly in place and justs pushes the cable down a little. The part looks like this (the link may say E7440 but it works fine in the E7450.

    2. By default the storage controller is in RAID mode. You can change it in the BIOS, but Windows may crash or fail to boot if the appropriate driver and registry entries have not been set up. Dell used to pre-configure Windows with this and may still do, but when I tried to change my E7450 from RAID to AHCI after upgrading to Windows 10 everything crashed and it took me a while to get the computer working again. Since then I've been lazy and left it in RAID mode. It doesn't affect the performance (run CrystalDiskMark to check).

Since this is edp screen has anyone tried a higher resolution screen on the e7450. I think Razor or MSI has 14" QHD or 3k resolutions?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a dell e7450, 256gb ssd, i7-5600u, touch screen, 8 gb ram.

Today my touchbad/physical right/left click will not work. Every time I click on the desktop it shows the right click menu.

I did a system restore but that hasn't changed anything. I have to use the touchscreen now to do anything. Anyone else have this problem?

There are settings in the dell mouse software to change this setting. If the mouse behaves oddly in the bios menu it's likely hardware related or see if there is also a bios setting for your mouse. If it functions fine in the bios setting or run via linux on a usb stick to double check.

IIRC the first challenge is to find a 2242 M.2 SSD, the second challenge is to make sure it has a PCIe, not mSATA, interface and the third challenge is to persuade someone to buy it to try in their E7450 knowing that it might not work.

In the mean time be thankful that Dell didn't opt for an M.2 slot for the main storage drive and that it's possible to get 1TB in the mSATA format.

Just got M.2 PCIE in my desktop and wow is it fast... I really hope manufacturers go this route in newer notebooks rather than sticking with mSATA. (e7460 anyone?)
