Purchased a 7285 supposedly with WWAN but though there is a SIM slot in the tablet the bios states there is no SIM hardware. Asked elsewhere and was told this is normal and requires buying a WWAN card and installing myself. Is this correct? I tried contacting Dell but have been hung up on twice already within the space of 30 mins so i have already initiated a return but still wonder if these devices are supposed to come with all hardware installed or not. Thanks for any information.

There is normally e a WWAN card slot on the mainboard which is wired to the SIM card slot. It would be extra hassle for Dell to have separate inventory items for boards with / without WWAN support (they have enough other variables without this option doubling the number of options). However, Dell sometimes produce different versions of the notebooks with/without the antenna. Are there ends of the antennae cables next to the WWAN card slot?

I havent opened it up since i was expecting all hardware to be present and not sure if this is standard.

I posted on the Dell forum and someone pretty much confirmed what you explained so I'll be opening it up and checking what's there.

WWAN capable just means the M.2 expansion slot for the WWAN card and the necessary antennas are installed. It does not mean a WWAN card is installed.
Dell makes multiple versions of the motherboard, some with the WWAN M.2 slot, some without that slot (just blank section on the board).

Right, now I just need to figure out which card I need. Searches on eBay and amazon show cards with different revisions and DP/N numbers for the same DW5811e card. Any idea which should work or are they all the same? Dell's manual doesn't give any clue beyond the DW5811e number
