I think it's time to replace the display on my 6430u if I can find one for a decent price ($75 or less) that is high quality. Am I correct that the original HD+ displays were made by LG and AU Optronics? Were there any other manufacturers of the OEM displays? Of the OEM displays, which brand was the best quality?

My current display was damaged when I dropped my 6430u with the display open. It landed on top of my printer sitting in the floor and the lower right corner of the display hit a sharp corner of the printer. It put a tiny ding in the screen the size of a pinhead but it is very annoying to me. The screen also has grown dimmer over time and at max. brightness it is nowhere near the 300-nits that it was originally claimed to be.

I'm probably going to buy a E7440 or E7450 from Dell Outlet in the next six months, but I'll probably give the 6430u to a friend or relative and want it to have a good display.
