Any CPU produced after 2006 should be paired with a 64-bit install - there are pretty much no reasons to go with a 32-bit OS

EDIT: I would highly advise Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, however, as those do offer a tangible improvement in overall performance as well as lots of additional features.

I agree with the above. Windows 7 wont be supported that much longer as well. Windows 8.1 and 10 will have support from Microsoft for a much longer time.

    Dear colleagues
Thank you for your trouble in answering. I decided to go for the 64 bit.
As for win 8 or win 10: your helpful comments are appreciated: however the system comes with the win 7 pro coa / product key so I can have a legal copy free.
    Best wishes Ian
