    Hello folks,

    While browsing through the current lineup, I noticed the Latitude 5480. This looks like a true successor to the E7470 despite not being in the same weight class. To me, it has the ports in the right place, has the right features and looks solid.

    I'm curious if anyone owns this and has any feedback to share.

    Thanks!

    Hi all,

    Bought 5480 and a bit surprised with boot speed. My 5480-9187 (7440hq, ssd) boots 1.5x slower than 3 yo Samsung ultrabook (3337u, ssd). Fast boot is on on both.
    Dell boot: and Samsung NP530U4E boot: .
    How are your boot times?

    Samsung offer very few hardware options so the BIOS spends less time probing the hardware to find the details and information such as the display resolution is coded into the BIOS.

    The work-around is to avoid booting by using sleep or hibernation.

    I have a completely different machine but several years old, and according to the Win 8.1 task manager, my last BIOS time was 4.5 seconds.

    Hello,

    Can you tell me more about the screens for this laptop ?

    As far as I know :
    - FHD non touch is dim and has a poor RGB coverage ;
    - touch FHD (the one reviewed by NBR) has a better coverage, but I don't need touch ;
    - what about the HD ? IPS, TN, brightness, RGB coverage ?

    Thank you :)

    Dell's display specifications list both the FHD touch and non-touch as 220 nit brightness (too dim, IMO) but with good viewing angles. The 1366 x 768 panel is 200 nit and poor viewing angles. It should be avoided.

    I just got my 5480 with FHD screen none touch, 256GB SSD, 8GB DDR4, backlight keyboard, i5-7300u, no OS, 4cell battery
    a couple of things:
    1. it actually arrived with Ubuntu Linux preinstalled with some Dell software on it for creating rescue disk
    2. the lack of led indicators really bugs me - you can't even tell when it's in standby once the lid is closed. There's only one white led to let you know it's charging.
    3. FHD matte screen illumination is okay but not too bright. coming from E6400 HD which is quite brighter.
    4. No fingerprint scanner
    5. Getting the SSD version means no 2.5 caddy and cable for installing standard SSD - there's definitely room for it inside. Currently Dell does not sell them separately - https://twitter.com/DellCaresPRO/status/849647986078609408?cn=cmVwbHk=&refsrc=email.
    Also check out detailed photos here http://www.altaum.com/wiki/dell_latitude_5480_en.html
    I didn't get the USB dongle with the recovery software from the above link.
    6. In order to open the back panel, I had to use a plastic pry tool as there are plastic clips holding it together . quite annoying, be careful opening
    7. I was getting MCE hardware errors running Fedora Linux 25. Flashed to the latest BIOS version on Dell website (released 27 April 2017) using the BIOS update in the boot menu - errors gone.
    8. the microphone off function key doesn't work for me under Linux. could not care less :)
    9. if being really picky..there's some movement pressing the keyboard down, from the left side. nothing serious
    10. Battery life is excellent so far

    Thank you ! (I didn't see this info on the belgian dell website).

    I agree, 220 is too dark. I'm writing this post with max. brightness on my 5450 (sunny day), which is supposed to have 290 nits max. Darker would be less comfortable.

    Probably legit; I just bought a conversion adapter the other way (to get M.2 rather than using the cable) from an ebay seller, and it was a standard dell new part.
