I recently acquired a Latitude 2100 with Ubuntu.
Our department purchased 3 of these for the managers. The intent is to use them as a service type netbook. We have wireless on our small campus, so with these netbooks and something like Skype we can be in communication when a troubleshooting is going on and someone may need a hand.

    On to the issue.
This setup has the 5300 wireless card inside. It's an N capable card.
I've got the unit here at home to get familiar with it. My router is a Dlink dir655.
I run this with my HP DV5 and it works great. The HP has an Intel 5100 AGN card.
With the recent driver upgrade my numbers show up to 300mbps. Before this recent driver update it only showed 150, however, the 655 "wireless status" would always show the connection as double what the network status would show. So, it's always being running up to 300mbps, it just didn't show up like it does now.

So, I connected with the Lat 2100 and Ubuntu shows it as only 54mbps.
However, again, the dir655 shows it running up to 300mbps.
I'm not very familiar with Ubuntu and I can't find how to get into the "configuration" settings for the 5300 card, like I can with Vista or XP.
I want to make sure that all the settings on the card are correct, but I can't find the info.
Speedtest.net shows the 5100 network speed just as fast as the HP DV5 with the 5100 card, so I'm sure the overall speed is there. I'm just trying to figure out why Ubuntu is only showing 56mbps. Only once it showed 60mbps, then went back.

As a university with a Microsoft contract, we'll be already have Windows 7, not the Beta or RC version. I'll be installing 7 on this Lat 2100 hopefully next week.
I've got 2G ram, but these were spec'd with SS harddrive at only 10G, poor choice imo.
Overall, the 2100 is a nice netbook, and it's built very sturdy with a very solid feel.
I've also got the 6 cell battery. We pretty much got all the upgrades except for the larger HDD's. I think the price on these was just under $600, quite high for a 10" netbook imo.
I think Dell is expecting people to pay for the rugged construction. But still, overall ltop prices have been coming down, and you can get a decent dual processor full size unit for around that price. Granted, the smaller size adds some flexibility, but I don't see how the construction and small size justify this rather high price. It works well, but you can feel the slower processor and slower overall performance. Performance to dollar is not there imo.

Can anyone help me out with how to get into the wireless car configuration to adjust things with this Ubuntu?
And, anyone else have one of these that is having the same speed reporting issues?
    Thanks in advance.
