I brought Windows 7 back from hibernation to find the keyboard locked

Pressing FN + F4 doesn't do anything - the keyboard locked icon still shows both on the login screen as well as on the laptop underneath the screen.

To be frank, I don't remember locking it in the first place.
    What might have caused it?

Ah, sorry. I replied to the wrong thread.

On the Dell E4300 the key is on F4. There is no icon on F9.

No, I couldn't type anything, the mousepad was locked, and the keybord lock icon was showing on the laptop above the keyboard.

I have to do a hard shutdown to get it to turn off. Pressing FN + F4 wouldn't fix it.

Now that it's rebooted, pressing FN + F4 toggles the icon but doesn't actually lock the keyboard.

It's a refurbished laptop, so perhaps something is broken or misconfigured.

something must be broken. i dont think there is any such thing as "keyboard lock" sounds like just a frozen system. most likely some incompatibility with windows 7 rather than anything being broken
